The Lake Chelan Radio Club and Apple City Radio Club have completed a major infrastructure upgrade across Chelan County, converting primary mountain-top repeater systems to Yaesu System Fusion (C4FM) digital capability. Located at high-altitude sites overlooking Lake Chelan, Wenatchee, and the Stevens Pass mountain corridor, the upgraded repeater network now seamlessly supports dual-mode analog FM and crystal-clear digital voice communications.
This technical enhancement significantly boosts signal clarity and expands coverage across challenging mountainous terrain in North Central Washington. Radio operators traveling along US Route 2 and Highway 97 can now enjoy reliable wide-area coverage and access linked reflector networks across the Inland Northwest.
Local technical coordinator John Tiley noted that the automatic mode select feature ensures existing analog handheld radios remain fully compatible while encouraging operators to explore modern digital voice technology. Future phases of the project will integrate solar battery backup systems and internet-linked Winlink RMS gateways to bolster emergency communications resilience throughout Chelan and Douglas counties.
