Stevens County ARES Adds New Members

Stevens County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) welcomed several new volunteer operators into its emergency communications team following an intensive licensing and emergency preparedness orientation course in Colville. The newly appointed operators completed training in Incident Command System (ICS) protocols, message logging procedures, and auxiliary radio equipment operation.

Serving rural northeast Washington, including Colville, Chewelah, and Kettle Falls, Stevens County ARES plays a crucial role in providing backup communications for local fire districts, law enforcement, and emergency management during severe winter storms and summer wildfire threats.

The new members were equipped with standardized EmComm toolkits and assigned to tactical roles within the county emergency communications structure. Team leaders emphasized that continuous training, monthly net participation, and repeater maintenance ensure that Stevens County ARES remains highly responsive and prepared to serve Inland Northwest communities whenever emergency communication services are required.
